The PA4EME station is located in the most southern part of the Netherlands: Sittard. Sittard is part of the city Sittard-Geleen with nearly 100.000 inhabitants. Belgium and Germany are very close as Sittard is located on the narrowest part of the country. It has a great history and first people were living here 5300 BC. The name Sittard is retrieved from the old German word "Siter" which means height or mountain.

Sittard is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. The first signs of settlements are dated at 5300 B.C. as the glacial loess was fertile agricultural land. Present day Sittard is assumed to be founded around 850 A.D. and to have been build around a motte (a wooden fortress). It was first mentioned in 1157 as Sitter. The city has been destroyed and rebuilt repeatedly during various conflicts and has been part of various Duchies, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
